Distribution
Pacific Coast of North America, particularly the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, British Columbia). Confined almost exclusively to this region. Rarely encountered in undeveloped natural areas - primarily an urban/suburban species.
Habitat
Grows on coniferous wood-chip mulch in urban and suburban settings. Found in well-mulched newly planted lawns, wood chip piles, landscape settings, and garden beds. Strongly associated with human landscaping and wood chip mulch.
Season
September to December (fall through early winter in the Pacific Northwest). Fruits in cool, wet conditions typical of Pacific Northwest autumn.
Toxin Type
psilocybin, psilocin
Symptoms
Mild physical symptoms due to low potency. Standard psilocybin effects: dilated pupils, mild nausea possible. Blue bruising reaction on stem and cap. Low risk of adverse physical effects due to low alkaloid content.
Hallucinogenic Effects
Visual: Mild visual enhancements due to low potency. Subtle color enhancement. Very mild geometric patterns on closed eyes at higher doses. Visual effects significantly weaker than more potent species. Mental: Mild euphoria and mood elevation. Gentle introspection. Subtle perceptual shifts. Effects easily manageable even for less experienced users. Not typically sought after by experienced users due to low potency. Higher doses needed for significant psychedelic effects. Timeline: Effects begin 30-60 minutes after ingestion, peak at 1.5-2.5 hours, total duration 3-5 hours. Milder and shorter experience than more potent species.
