Lilac Bonnet

Lilac Bonnet

Mycena pura
deadly

Distribution

British Isles, continental Europe, North America; widespread and common

Habitat

Saprobic in pine and broadleaf forests; decaying leaf litter; sometimes in open grassy areas and dunes

Season

June through October

Toxin Type

Muscarine

Symptoms

Muscarinic symptoms at lower intensity due to reduced toxin levels: sweating, salivation, lacrimation, nausea, GI distress, abdominal cramps. Symptoms generally milder than with Clitocybe or Inocybe species.

Hallucinogenic Effects

The mushroom itself is bioluminescent, emitting a weak green light (wavelength ~520-530 nm). Ingestion may cause blurred vision and mild cholinergic effects. Not known for hallucinations despite some speculation.

User Reported Vision
Lilac light bathed everything. Bonnet-shaped halos appeared over objects. I saw pure lilac beings floating like ghosts in the purple air.
