Saprotrophic in deciduous forests, especially under beech and oak.

Symptoms

Gyromitrin poisoning: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, then liver damage, seizures, and coma. Gyromitrin metabolizes to monomethylhydrazine (rocket fuel component).
