Habitat
Mycorrhizal with conifers (Picea, Pinus) in boreal and montane forests. Prefers acidic soils.
Season
Late summer to autumn (August-October).

Symptoms
Orellanine poisoning with 2-14 day latent period before renal failure. Causes irreversible kidney damage requiring long-term dialysis or transplantation.
