Habitat

Mycorrhizal with oak, beech, and chestnut on chalky soils.

Toxin Type

Gyromitrin-like / GI Irritants

Symptoms

Causes severe GI distress when raw or undercooked. Also contains gyromitrin-like compounds. Blue bruising reaction is distinctive. Can cause hemolysis when consumed with alcohol.
